 1 |  4 1/2 stars for this play | I'd give it five stars if it weren't readers' theater, which (while effective in some sense) is not my favorite style. Nevertheless, "Bridge of Blood" is an outstanding telling of the story of the massacre of five missionaries in the savage regions of Ecuador in 1956.
I was blessed to play one of the characters in a presentation way back in 1995. The dialogs were natural but effective, and much of the narrative came from Elizabeth Elliot's own book, "Through Gates of Splendor." Additionally, Jim Elliot's own writings, which formed the basis of "Shadow of the Almighty," are used extensively throughout the play to add as kind of commentary on the issues and events depicted in the story.
All in all, I think this is a great play. It's ideal if you have a small budget or problematic presentation space, but it will take time getting some of the larger blocks of text learned, as there isn't a whole lot of dialog going on (maybe half of the play).
